About Dean ‘The Art Wizard’

1. Who Am I?

I'm a passionate recycled artist who specializes in bringing fantastic opportunities to young people by creating amazing educational recycled huge artworks, permanent promotional sculptures, or animations for marketing purposes. I am also here to assist schools or communities create educational entertaining large recycled art attacks similar to Neil Buchanan from the Art Attack program!

2. What I Do?

I help educate primary & secondary pupils aged between 5-16 how to create artwork to predominately promote recycling or healthy eating.  Working with me enables parents to interact with their children, I like to involve all ages & my projects in the past have also involved working with pensioners or mature adults.

Working with me young people will learn various techniques such as how to reuse various recycled items such as cutting & gluing CD’s, vinyl records, old clothing, tin cans, plastic carrier bags, electrical items plus much more! Also young people will learn new skills such as sculpting or relief art.  They will learn how to create wire armatures or use professional industry standard sculpting materials to create animation puppets, set building & storyboarding within a classroom environment or pupils can even learn how to create giant artwork using stop-frame time lapse animation within either school halls, playgrounds or bespoke venues.

3.  How I do it better?

I believe all children & adults should be treated as equals at any age, whether they are any creed or have any disabilities.  I’m so positive that my approach to encouraging all ages to be imaginative & creative whilst doing hands on art or design projects leaves truly memorable outcomes.

When children or adults work with me they will have fun learning, but more importantly my clients will see that I work extremely closely with schools, councils or other bodies to create bespoke projects for each individual client. Any project taken out is thought through vigorously with collaboration with each client. I’m always aiming to improve key imperative learning objectives to enhance the creative curriculum but at the same time adhering to reducing, reuse, recycle agenda of educating young people & society about environmental issues.

Dean’s background

1999: I started doing a part-time A level course in fine art, what was incredible I hadn’t drawn a picture for the entire 13 years.  For me this was my greatest accomplishment.

(Wow I achieved a grade A in fine art A Level) “This proves you can achieve anything as I was 30 when I gained this award.”)

2000: With gaining a grade A in Fine art I was then accepted onto a full-time foundation course at DeMonfort University, I received a Distinction. “Yes this was very scary leaving a secure full-time job but it’s the best decision i’ve ever made”

2001: Was excepted onto a full-time 3 year degree course in illustration at Loughborough University

“2004 Hurray I gained a 2.1 BA Hons Visual Communication in Illustration, oh I loved my time learning at University, recommend it to any budding artist or designer.”

2004-2005: I was also accepted onto an MA in Art & Design at Loughborough University.

“2005 I gained a pass in an MA Art & Design and how much fun I had during this one year course, I invented a healthy eating Superhero/Villain Toy concept, this idea is now being used by schools across Leicestershire to educate healthy eating and educating hand eye coordination” (Read testimonials)

2005-2007: Started a business called Dr.Iconic, the idea was to create bespoke advertising characters out of corporate business products or services.

“Yes these times were hard, yes I was funded by the Catalyst fund & Un LTD to start my new venture but unfortunately it never really worked, however I did get to meet some really people” (Read on to see how Dean ‘The Art Wizard started)

2008: During 2007 I decided to look into the education market and this is when Dean “The Art Wizard” was born.

“I remembered back in 2005 when I was doing my MA, part of my research was to goto schools and test my superhero/villain toy idea. I really enjoyed working with children & the children got a real buzz meeting me. So during 2007-2009 its then I decided to work with schools & the community and it’s gone from strength to strength.”

“I love working with children & adults & I can clearly say now I am know in my element, its great fun educating others through many art forms and best of all enjoying your job and everyone else around me getting a real energy buzz and enjoying all the activities we do!”

2009: During 2009 I have educated young people all about several types of recycled art & alternative ways of teaching healthy eating within schools and the community. Within the next few years were hoping to create stop-frame animations concentrating on recycling & healthy eating themes.

“The community of the East Midlands were introduced about my recycled work as it was highly publicized on BBC East Midlands Today, BBC radio Leicester, Leicester Mercury, Daily Mirror, BBC Pointswest Bristol & many other tabloids. I created the only 11 ft CD horse sculpture in the world created from recycled Cd’s. During 2009 I created a tank from tin cans, swan from carrier bags, animations, large art attacks and so much more!

2010-Future: I have so many exiting community & school projects lined up such as huge animated Olympic athletes created from children & parents similar to the talk talk advertisements.
